Joanne Modica, Boston Interior Designer

I’m Grateful for the Opportunity to Guide My Client’s Vision and Help Define Their Home Style.

My interior design projects reflect a collaborative process of defining your vision for your home style. This phase helps us envision the mood and aesthetic together.

Inspiration is everywhere. Let’s find yours.

Every room’s mood is created with the choice of colors, the style of the furnishings, accent pieces, and the amount of texture and pattern that resonate with your style.

Home style tips for a home bar

Before any construction, painting, or rearranging begins, I like to find what inspires you and your family and what’s essential for your day-to-day living. So I encourage my clients to gather things from around the house that have meaning and make them feel good. It’s a fun exercise. Then, we study them carefully for color cues and perhaps a hint of the new home style for the redesign.

Does your furniture reflect your personal style?

When it comes to new furniture selection, I start by determining whether the current mix satisfies taste, function, and style. Then, if a piece isn’t working (maybe it’s too large or too small), I encourage my clients to dare to trade it for something that may make a statement and still make them happy. Happiness in your home is the most important thing!

Lighting sets the mood of a room! We carefully make selections based on the room’s functions and visual appeal for every project. For example, some rooms require direct lighting from a lamp or indirect lights to brighten the room for conversation or entertaining. Some require accent lighting like floor spots, track lighting, or recessed spotlights to enhance texture, color, or the room’s architectural details.

Home style tips for accessories that make a room

When it comes to color, generally it’s best to choose three colors in a room: a dominant color, used for walls, carpeting, and fabric backgrounds; a secondary color, found throughout the room in fabrics and accessories; and an accent color, used sparingly to give energy and excitement to the room.

Thanksgiving is the perfect time of year to express gratitude to my clients, vendors, and partners who help me design homes that bring joy to their owners year-round!
