Interior Design Process

I. Design Process

The first step in the interior design process is a free, onsite 30-90 minute consult session. We walk through your home, discuss your aesthetic and functional needs, identify the “must-haves” on your interior design or construction project wish list and discuss financial investment. We also determine project scope and timing.

Next, we send you a design proposal, including a non-refundable design fee, which includes photographing your residence; taking precise measurements of each room and bringing in any subcontractors for estimating. From this, we create three design options (including basic floorplans and/or elevations) with materials and budgets for presentation.

If you are happy with one of these design directions, we either move forward together or you can take the design and implement on your own.

II. Design Development

This is when the real fun begins. Now that we have a deeper understanding of your tastes and priorities, the design process continues, and Joanne develops comprehensive interior design directions. These include detailed floor plans, elevations, targeted furniture selections, material samples, paint color selection, and sketches, as needed. Our goal is to provide you with enough design direction to understand what the space will look like as we proceed. We work with you to narrow down the final selections, pricing, and then begin implementing your interior design project.

III. Product Acquisition

After your final approval, it’s time to purchase materials. During this phase, Joanne Modica Interior Design, yourself, and any contractors that may be involved with your project purchase necessary products and materials. We secure any workrooms and contractors necessary and communicate with them on timing to receive the fabrics and materials for draperies, upholstery, pillows and cushions, tiles, wallpaper – anything that will be customized for your project

IV. Implementation

General – shift from passive to active voice when possible/desired.  Minimize the distance] Once we have the products and materials, and the workrooms and specialists are onboard, we begin implementation and construction (if relevant). The scope may be as simple as arranging furniture and hanging artwork. Or it may be more complex, like building a new kitchen. It all depends on the range of your project.

As the project progresses, we always review the work of the workrooms, contractors, painters and installers. We arrange delivery of furniture and other merchandise during the Implementation to ensure things move along smoothly. During this phase, it is critical to keep an open line of communication and to inspect all work as it is progressing.

V. Installation/Final Steps

We at Joanne Modica Interior Design oversees the final installation of all materials and architectural changes. Once the dust has settled, the paint has dried, and your furniture is in place, we work with you and all contractors to address any remaining punch list items. Making sure the final details have been seen to ensures you are happy with the final result.

Our goal is to make sure that we have met or exceeded your expectations and that you are happy with your home’s new look and feel. We take pictures of your redesigned spaces on the last day of the project or whenever it’s most convenient for you.
